This is the fourth installment of the #ROGForCreators campaign for the ASUS brand. As always, the action is dedicated to creators associated with the world of computer games. This time, with the support of experts from the gamedev industry and the Ten Square Games production studio, as well as in cooperation with the leaders of the Polish gaming industry, we developed a competition aimed at creating our own game.
How do I create a game that I want to play? It is not easy. That is why we decided to make this task a bit easier for the participants and let them build on the first Polish PC game “Electro Body” from 1992. The task of the creators was to expand a fragment of the code or plot direction. Sounds easy? Nothing could be more wrong.
Providing the tools to create a game is only half the battle. The second is knowledge and experience. Fortunately, we were able to involve experienced creators in the project, incl. the legend of the Polish gamedev Maciej Miąsik, Piotr Gnyp from Movie Games, Paweł Szpiczakowski from Ten Square Games and Damian Kuk from “PL Tu-tors”. In the video, they shared valuable tips, observations and stories “from the life of a practitioner”.
As in previous editions of the competition, on our side was also the creation of the KV action and a landing page, which included materials necessary to complete the task, video with ambassadors and info about the competition. All in the aesthetics referring to the early 90s and graphics from the cult game “Elec-tro Body”.
The main prize in the programming section was the ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 laptop – advanced hardware designed especially for gamers, graphics, musicians and all those who care about reliable smoothness and the highest user experience. The winner also received an invitation to the Ten Square Games workshops, which is a great opportunity to learn from the inside out the process of creating games, as well as meet experienced practitioners in the gaming industry.
This activation consisted of two separate competitions. The first was about creating your own game, the second was to write a story for a selected hero. Despite the fact that the first task was extremely difficult, we managed to collect 30 very valuable applications. The 2nd and 3rd place winners won workshops at Ten Square Games as well as training and courses with Unity. And the winners of awards: vouchers for game purchases worth PLN 250 and sets of Asus ROG gadgets.
